Exports of Chinese Silicon Metal Almost Doubled in March of 2014

With wet season approaching in southwest areas, many Si plants plan to restart furnaces. Furnaces in Sichuan province may restart in May, and Si manufacturers might rework in late May.

Serious reduction of production remained in some main production regions and April output of FeSi was expected to decline in China.

Due to the steady demand from downstream industries, CaSi prices had less change and most orders were from old clients. Meanwhile, CaSi price had less momentum to increase and suppliers had few profits to obtain.

Recently, spoken with many manufacturers, many silicon metal plants plan to restart furnaces in wet season. Meanwhile, the suppliers are not optimistic to future market. The increasing spot Si volumes in wet season may pull down the prices.

FeSi producers were in deficit and overall operation rate kept low in some main production regions, which indicated the output would be affected.
